The root of the disadvantage of many people is that they do not feel a need to develop their language, and the reason is that they are unaware of the possibilities of language. They imperfectly appreciate the nature, the uses, and the joy of language. They have a jewel which is worth a fortune, which can be worked to a rare edge of precision, which can be cut to a many-faceted beauty; and they are playing marbles with it in the backyard.
